Consultation Document: Expansion of Nursery Age Range to Include 2-Year-Olds
The Proposal
Worcesters Primary School is seeking to expand its provision to offer early years education and care to children from the age of 2 years. Currently, the nursery admits children from the age of 3. The purpose of this consultation is to provide information about our proposal and seek the views of local families and the wider community.
The Rationale for Expansion
- Community Need: Local families have expressed a need for earlier childcare provision, particularly for working parents and those eligible for funded 2-year-old places.
- Government Funding: The government offers free childcare for eligible 2-year-olds, and this expansion would allow us to support more families in accessing this benefit.
- Continuity of Care: Accepting children from age 2 promotes consistency and familiarity, allowing children to remain in a known environment as they transition into pre-school education.
- Sustainability: Broadening our intake age range may support the long-term financial viability of the nursery through increased enrolment and funding.

Next Steps
After reviewing the consultation feedback, the leadership team will make a final decision on the proposal and will publish the decision on the school website. If approved, we anticipate beginning enrolment of 2-year-olds from 1st September 2025.
